Ten years ago, computer programming was a niche job that was reserved for the technology addict’s who had spent months learning lines of code in their basement in order to make a program. With the advent of the internet and more recently smartphones, computer programming has become a more important part of the job scene and many are taking up the mantle of becoming programmers.
The internet made programming languages that are easy to learn and even easier to implement. An entire generation was raised on tweaking their social networking profile with HTML and CSS. These skills translate into jobs for those looking to get into computer programming.
Perhaps the biggest change was the introduction of the “app”. When Apple dropped the iPhone, iOS development became the most lucrative job opportunity. Coding in Cocoa was easy and entrepreneurs flocked to the system in order to try to make money. This created an entire generation of new programmers who know how to code and use iOS. When Android debuted it just further cemented programming as a great way to make money in the modern age.
The new programmer has it easier than any other coders in the past thanks to the API’s and tutorials that are now available. Programmers can find enormous amounts of free resources on the internet. In the past, manuals had to be ordered from esoteric places and brought in from all across the world
Becoming a programmer can give you increased job security in the digital age. Many college age students are currently realizing that and beginning to take programming classes. No matter who you are, you could benefit from an introduction to how computers actually work. Computer programming has changed from it’s hardcore roots and quickly become something that everyone can get involved with. The new programmer is everyone.
